HAVING regular health examinations and screenings will provide early detection and warning of diseases, including breast cancer, enabling timely treatment.

Breast cancer is the most common and diagnosed cancer among women worldwide.

In Malaysia, one in every 30 women is at risk of this disease.

Early detection practices, such as mammograms, clinical breast examination and self-breast examination, remain as some of the most important ways to detect and prevent breast cancer.

With October declared as Breast Cancer Awareness month, Watsons Malaysia raised awareness on the importance of early detection of this disease through its Watsons Pink Ribbon Campaign.

Watsons Malaysia managing director Caryn Loh said the campaign was in collaboration with Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).

“Approximately one in 20 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, according to medical experts. However, early detection can save lives.”

During the campaign, which ends Oct 29, Loh said with every purchase of RM50 and above of participating brands, Watsons will contribute RM1 to BCWA.

Participating brands include Biore, Bio-essence, Blackmores, Cetaphil, Gatsby, GVC, Hada Labo, Kate, Lifebouy, Maybelline, Nano White, NH Detox, Nivea, Oral-B, Pure Beauty, Pantene and Safi.

“Watsons members will receive a free RM10 voucher, which can be used in their next purchase. It is a token of our appreciation for supporting this campaign,” Loh said.

“The pink ribbon — a symbol representing breast cancer awareness — is available in the form of a magnet pin and will be on sale at selected Watsons and online stores for RM5.

“Purchase of the pin comes with free health checks and makeovers by Watsons experts.”

She said proceeds from the sale of the pink ribbon magnet pins would also be donated to the association.

Watsons, she said, hopes to educate its customers and raise awareness on the importance of early breast cancer detection.
