Malaysia bag two more gold
added two more gold medals to their haul at the Indonesia Asian Para Games yesterday with sprinter Ridzuan Puzi again taking the spotlight in track and field.
After winning the 100m T36 in a new world record time on Tuesday, Ridzuan added the 400m T36 gold, winning in 59.36 seconds at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta yesterday.
Oman’s Al Harrasi Taha Abdullah Rashid (59.75s) and Iran’s Kahrizi Farhad (1:00.39s) came in second and third.
Faizal Aideal was forced to settle for bronze in the men’s 100m T12 in 11.40s.
The table tennis event witnessed Chee Chaoming and Ting Ing Hock doing the nation proud by winning the men’s doubles TT8-9 gold after scoring a 11-7, 8-11, 11-6 win over Indonesian pair Prahasta Mohamad Rian-Kusnanto in the final.
In swimming, Muhammad Nur Syafiul Zulkafli and Jamery Siga took silver and bronze in the men’s 200m S5 after clocking 3:02.57s and 3:03.83s respectively. Vietnam’s Vo Thanh Tung took gold on 3:00.02s.
In bowling, Mohd Khairul Ishak and Zahidi Lamsah won silver in the doubles TPB8+TPB8 (mixed) after scoring a combined 2,240 pinfalls.
Mohd Azrin Rahim and Abu Bakar Nyat also took silver in the doubles TPB9+TPB9 (mixed) category after notching 2,465.
Mohd Rizal Hassan-Muhamad Hairul Miran clinched bronze in the doubles TPB1+TPB3 (mixed) event on 2,193.
Malaysia have amassed nine gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals to place eighth in the overall medal standings.
