Paramo­tor stops work­ing af­ter 5 min­utes in the air

AMAN was killed af­ter crash­ing into Sun­gai Muda in a paraglid­ing ac­ci­dent in Kuala Muda, Kedah, at 8am yes­ter­day. Kuala Muda dis­trict po­lice chief As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner Ad­zli Abu Shah said the in­ci­dent oc­curred shortly af­ter Muham­mad Khairun­naim Ab­dul­lah, 30, and his friend took off from Dataran Dato Ali Ya­haya here.

He said the vic­tim’s paramo­tor stopped work­ing af­ter five min­utes, forc­ing him to crash-land in Sun­gai Muda.

“Vil­lagers rushed over and found the vic­tim’s body drift­ing in the wa­ter.

“Early in­ves­ti­ga­tion showed that the vic­tim was a mem­ber of a reg­is­tered paraglid­ing as­so­ci­a­tion. He was a qual­i­fied paraglider and re­ceived per­mis­sion from the Depart­ment of Civil Avi­a­tion (DCA) to fly.”

Ad­zli said the paramo­tor would be sent to DCA to de­ter­mine the cause of en­gine fail­ure.

The case has been cat­e­gorised as sud­den death.
