AZMIN IN THE LEAD IN SELANGOR

He wins in 6 divisions in first phase of state polls

-

SELANGOR PKR chairman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is leading in the race in the state for the No. 2 party post. The first of three phases of state-level election, which involved nine divisions, concluded yesterday.

The nine divisions are Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar, Hulu Selangor, Serdang, Kelana Jaya, Subang, Kapar, Kota Raja and Sepang.

According to the party’s polls website, www.pemilihankeadilan2018.com, Azmin, who is also economic affairs minister, polled 9,337 votes while his challenger, Rafizi Ramli, obtained 8,563 votes.

The former Selangor menteri besar won in six divisions, namely Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar, Serdang, Subang, Kota Raja and Sepang.

Rafizi, who is former Pandan member of parliament, won in Hulu Selangor, Kelana Jaya and Kapar.

The Puchong, Gombak, Petaling Jaya Utara, Petaling Jaya Selatan, Kuala Langat, Klang and Selayang divisions will hold their polls on Oct 21; Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor, Ampang, Pandan, Shah Alam and Hulu Langat on Oct 28.

However, the official tally of votes will only be announced by the party’s central election committee mittee once it is satisfied that the e-voting process was satisfactorily conducted.

The PKR electoral outcome in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Federal Territories was in favour of Rafizi, whereas Azmin was victorious in Penang and Johor.

At the PKR divisional election, Deputy Rural Development Minister R. Sivarasa won the Subang PKR division chief post when he defeated his rival, Shatiri Mansor.

Kapar member of parliament Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid failed to wrest the Kapar division chief post when he lost to Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi.

PKR central election committee chairman Datuk Rashid Din said the election in Selangor was being held in three stages due to the large number of delegates. Selangor has the highest PKR membership, at 249,850. “Since our staff and equipment are limited, we have to hold the election on (three) days... to ensure the smooth running of the voting process,” he said.

“We advise members and contestants to maintain discipline and to contest fairly.

“Win or lose, we are still PKR members.

“We are a family, so let’s tolerate each other,” Rashid said.
