A long walk to vote in Kapar

-

KLANG: The location factor, compounded by lack of computers, affected e-voting in PKR polls in the Kapar division here yesterday.

PKR central executive committee member Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said party delegates were forced to walk 1km due to the narrow route leading to the voting centre for the polls at the Klang Rakan Muda Complex here.

“There were only 120 computers available for e-voting at the centre.

“It is not enough, considering the number of party delegates at the branch.

“Many delegates had to queue for a long time before they were allowed to enter the hall and vote.

“This is a serious matter and I will ask the central election committee to look into this.

“They must go to the ground and carry out an evaluation to ensure that the problem does not recur,” said Abdullah Sani, who is Kapar member of parliament.

He said the venue should be equipped with 200 sets of computers to ensure a smooth e-voting process.

Abdullah Sani, however, said the e-voting for the Kapar division, which ended at noon, proceeded without any untoward incidents.

Checks by the New Straits Times Press since 9am showed that thousands of party delegates, who arrived at the voting centre about the same time, caused a massive congestion.

It is learnt that there are 19,578 delegates registered under the Kapar PKR division.

Abdullah Sani, who is vying for the Kapar PKR chief post, lost to Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi.

Dr Daroyah won the contest after defeating incumbent Datuk Azizi Ayob, as well as Abdullah Sani, Mohd Ali Mat Rasid and Mohd Miftahhuddin Abdullah in a multi-cornered fight.
