-

BATU PAHAT: Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar reminded graduates not to be arrogant with the degree they obtained, adding that there are no shortcuts to success.

The sultan, who is Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) chancellor, said although people had a degree, it would have no value if they failed to find employment, adding that graduates should start seeking experience from the bottom.

He said seeking experience, improving skills and acquiring knowledge were essential for graduates to become successful.

“I remind you not to be overbearing with the degree to the extent that you become choosy, unemployed and continue troubling your parents,” he said at the first session of UTHM’s 18th convocation in Parit Raja here yesterday.

Present was Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who is UTHM pro-chancellor. Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian, state Islamic Affairs and Education Committee chairman Aminolhuda Hassan and state Youth, Sports and Culture Committee chairman Mohd Khuzzan Abu Bakar.

Sultan Ibrahim advised graduates that while working, they must look after the good name and reputation of their alma mater and be determined to become excellent workers.

“Graduates should carry out their duties with responsibility, diligence, honesty and trust.”

He reminded graduates not to forget the kindness and sacrifices of their parents.

A total of 4,048 graduates received their diplomas and degrees.
