A walk in the park for Wee Wern
battling flu, a determined Low Wee Wern had no difficulty clinching her fourth PSA title this year at the Q Open in Queensland, Australia yesterday.
Wee Wern demolished Australian Jessica Turnbull 11-6, 11-5, 11-6 in 24 minutes in the final of the US$5,500 (RM22,869) tournament at the Carrara Squash Centre.
The Penang-born said she is glad everything has gone to plan since making her comeback.
She is currently ranked No 54 but should see a slight bump up when the updated rankings are released soon.
“It feels good to win my fourth title this year, hopefully with this I can qualify for the bigger tournaments,” said Wee Wern yesterday.
“I am looking good to break into the top-50 by the end of the year which is the target.”
Wee Wern, who struggled with injuries in recent seasons, played her first tournament in almost two years at the National Championships in July, where she reached the final.
She then went on to win three PSA tournaments in a row — the Malaysian Open, Tasmanian Open and Australian Open.
The 28-year-old will now prepare for next month’s Hong Kong Open and Singapore Open.
The Q Open was a positive outing in general for the national women’s players as three out of the four semi-finalists were Malaysians.
Ooi Kah Yan lost to Wee Wern while Aika Azman went down to Jessica.
