Hisham offers help to bring Jho Low back from China, if he’s there

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein says he is willing to help the government find fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, if the latter is in China.

Hishammuddin, who was former special functions minister as well as defence minister, said finding Low was key to bringing closure to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.

“People say that he is in China and we want him to face justice before the courts.

“If that individual (Low) is in China, and given that I have links with the country (from the previous administration), I will do my utmost to make sure that he faces justice and bring closure to 1MDB so that the country can move forward.

“No one in this country can deny his direct involvement in 1MDB. If he wants to clear his name, he must come back to Malaysia and face all the charges.

“If I can help, I will find him to the ends of the earth,” he said in the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Hishammuddin said he had remained consistent on the 1MDB issue.

“Just like everyone else, we want the truth and if Low needs to be brought to justice, InsyaAllah, I will help.”

Asked further whether he was confident of bringing Low back from China, Hishammuddin replied: “No, I am never confident. But, I have enough contacts and friends from the past leadership.

“I am not sure whether it can be done and he might not be in China, but I am willing to help.”

The Sembrong member of parliament said there were rumours that he was asked by Putrajaya to help deal with China, which he said was not true.

“I would like to reiterate that there was no request by Putrajaya for me to help them mend ties with China.

“This is my personal position. We want closure on 1MDB and Low is a critical and important element of the scandal,” he said, adding that he was already working to bring Low back to Malaysia.

He said it was up to the courts to decide whether Low was guilty.

“He cannot be roaming the world as though nothing happened when it comes to 1MDB,” he said.

Recently, Hishammuddin refuted a report that the government had sought his help to restore ties between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
