‘PKR must have willpower to remove corrupt members’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR leadership must have the political willpower to disqualify candidates who had won the party polls by being involved in money politics.

PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said corruption should not be allowed to take root in the party whose ideals were centred on justice.

“I think the party must have the courage to disqualify a candidate who had won the election, if there’s evidence that he or she is involved in money politics.

“They (party leader- ship) must have the political willpower to do so,” said the deputy primary industries minister at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.

Shamsul said a probe into the alleged money politics in the PKR polls was expected to continue after the party election was over.

“Meeting (or discussions on money politics) is ongoing even until election.

“If there is even an iota of evidence or rumour (concerning money politics), that alone is enough to necessitate an investigation.

“Corruption starts with a cup of tea.”

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who is vying for the party’s number two post, had claimed that money politics were detected in six states where the PKR election had concluded.

Outgoing PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail confirmed that the matter was being probed by the party’s election steering committee.
