A very good afternoon to Madam Lim Ai Moi, the principal of SMK Taman Ehsan, teachers and friends. Today, I would like to talk about the importance of cleanliness. TASK 5

There are however things that we should not do. We should not dirty the classroom. I have noticed that some students never sweep the floor or clean the board. There are others who actually have the bad habit of throwing rubbish into the drains and out of the windows. If this goes on, we will have a dirty school and become unhealthy ourselves. There are those who damage school facilities, such as breaking the chairs and so on. We will be the ones without those facilities. In other words we are making it difficult for ourselves. There are others who climb the balcony and run up and down the stairs. Some often run along the corridors. Accidents can occur and we ourselves will get hurt. Other bad habits that will bring harm to us are such as disobeying school’s rules by bringing sharp objects, missing lessons on physical education and more. We must make our school as conducive as we can – a place for us to grow.

One of the ways to reduce pollution is by getting together as residents of our town. We need to clean up rubbish around our school, town and river that flows through part of the town. Further, the town council should make effort to impose fines to those who litter the surrounding areas and throw rubbish into the river.

TASK 8

We are the people of Malaysia. Every Malaysian knows who Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad is. He is better known as Tun M. He was born on the 20th of December 1925. He had his early education in Sultan Abdul Hamid College in Kedah. Later on, he pursued his studies at King Edward VII College of Medicine, Singapore. He, then became a medical doctor in Kedah and opened his own clinic.

TASK 9 Air Pollution

Prior to the industrial revolution, the air was pure and the water was clean. Now, we have made tremendous technical advances whereby factories have mushroomed and modern transportation has developed.

We tend to neglect the dust and gases from the factories that cause air pollution. Air pollution can also be caused by the exhaust fumes from the ever increasing number of vehicles on the roads. These fumes contain carbon monoxide which causes ill-health. Open burning is another major cause of air pollution that we see in the form of fog and haze.

Sulphur dioxide fumes given off by factories and power plants can blacken buildings and corrode metals. What more to our health. Air pollution can cause poor health in the form of headaches and even to the extent of brain damage. Lung cancer, heart and kidney problems are prevalent diseases amongst us nowadays to name a few.

Steps must be taken to combat air pollution. We do not want to live in a damaged and dangerous environment. We should try to combat this problem through the enforcement of laws. A public awareness campaign would be great. Factories should be relocated and there should be a close check on them. Stringent measures must be implemented to curb open-burning.

A cleaner air to breathe would ensure a better life to live.
