TO expand its digital reach and democratise its video content to a larger audience beyond Malaysia, Media Prima Bhd (MPB) is collaborating with Dailymotion, a worldwide leading video player technology and content discovery platform.

MPB Televison Networks chief executive officer Johan Ishak said the collaboration would boost MPB’s revenue through its programmatic advertising.

He said MPB hoped to see an increase in the number of viewers and registered users in two of its online media platforms — Tonton.com.my and Extra.com.my — after the collaboration.

“Currently, there are 8.4 million users registered with Tonton, seven million television households and 21 million viewers recorded in the country. We are targeting 10 million users to register with Tonton after the collaboration.

“Whatever is on television will be broadcast on the Internet and the collaboration with Dailymotion is important. The worldwide popular online platform is multilingual and it has 300 million monthly visitors and three billion monthly video views.

“Hence, this collaboration is important for us,” he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between MPB and Dailymotion at Sri Pentas.

Present were Media Prima Bhd group managing director Datuk Kamal Khalid and Dailymotion vice-president of content in Asia Pacific Antoine Nazaret.

Nazaret said it was high time the company worked with MPB as it was the leading media company in the country.

“We are looking forward to our partnership with Media Prima. We appreciate the effort and MPB is moving fast. Hence, we are impressed by that.

“We want to build this partnership, and an online media platform like this plays an important role. In our willingness to be as close and supportive to the media in their journey towards digitalisation, the partnership with Media Prima is a confirmation of Dailymotion’s primary role in the video-streaming space.”

Under the MoU, the first phase will showcase MPB live-stream shows, such as Anugerah Skrin 2018, and high-quality videos from Media Prima Television Networks, Ripple, the New Straits Times Press and Media Prima Digital will be uploaded to Dailymotion.
