10 police reports lodged over Melaka polls fiasco

-

MELAKA: The fiasco at the PKR election here on Saturday stemmed from dissatisfaction over the e-voting system.

Following this, 10 police reports were lodged by party members from six divisions between Saturday and yesterday.

State police chief Datuk Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said four reports were lodged in Melaka Tengah and the remaining in Alor Gajah.

“Some of them (party members) were upset because their names were not in the (e-voting) list.

“We did not open an investigation paper on the issue.

“Those who had lodged a report may bring his copy to the party headquarters as reference,” he said after attending the state police contingent monthly assembly here yesterday.

A total of 23,466 PKR members here are eligible to vote in the six divisions — Bukit Katil, Tangga Batu, Alor Gajah, Jasin, Kota Melaka and Masjid Tanah.

It was learnt that the delay in the result announcement was what caused the commotion.

On a separate matter, Raja Shahrom said heavier punishments were needed to curb illegal racing, especially as the existing penalties had little effect in addressing the problem.

“(Some) of the offenders continue to take part in illegal racing and put road users’ lives at risk.

“Moreover, I found that some of their parents have little concern for the teenagers’ activities.”
