Pahang PKR: No need to postpone announcement of results
KUANTAN: Pahang PKR has questioned the need to withhold PKR election results, as suggested by vice-president Tian Chua, just because there have been glitches and irregularities in the party’s evoting system in certain locations.
State PKR chairman Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman said there was no need to postpone the announcement of results nationwide as these allegations of glitches and irregularities occurred only in several locations.
“If there is not enough proof into the allegations by Tian Chua, there is no need to withhold the election result announcement. However, PKR’s Central Election Committee and disciplinary board have to look into the allegations by Tian Chua as it involves the credibility of the party.
“Furthermore, not all the locations (polling areas) encountered problems .... only certain polling centres were affected so there is no need for us to postpone it (the result announcement for other areas),” he said.
Fauzi was commenting on Tian Chua’s statement, which urged PKR’s Central Election Committee to withhold confirming all polling results until a comprehensive probe was carried out into the chaos at certain polling centres.
Tian Chua said the inquiry must be conducted to investigate all possible flaws, loopholes and weaknesses in the party election.
The former Batu member of parliament also alleged that the misconduct of certain individuals had affected the public’s perception of the party.
PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday told the party’s election and disciplinary committees to take stern action against those who have committed wrongdoings.
Fauzi said he hoped investigations into the chaos during party polls would be carried out and that there would no longer be problems in the remaining elections.
Last week, scuffles broke out in three out of six divisions during the Selangor PKR polls.
Last month, the Kedah PKR party elections faced similar problems and police had to control the situation.
