KEY SUSPECT REMANDED FOR 5 MORE DAYS
24-year-old Libyan believed to have been behind the wheel in incident
THE key suspect in the hit-and-run accident in Cyberjaya that resulted in the death of a Telekom Malaysia (TM) employee has been remanded for another five days.
The fresh remand application, which began yesterday, was to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Previously, the 24-year-old Libyan national was remanded for four days, which was extended to one more day, to assist in investigations under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Magistrate Yusna Khadijah Md Yusof allowed for the new remand application.
It is believed that the suspect was behind the wheel in the hitand-run incident at Shaftsbury Square in Cyberjaya.
Three others were initially detained with the Libyan.
They were a 20-year-old man, also from Libya, a 22-year-old from Yemen and a woman from Sabah.
All three were released on police bail.
The four were arrested on Oct 19 at two different locations and remanded for four days to assist in investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The Yemeni suspect was detained at Persiaran Putra Permai Selesa in Pusat Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, while the rest were nabbed at Verdi Residence, Symphony Hills, Cyberjaya. The TM staff, Wan Amirah Wan Alias, suffered serious injuries when she was mowed down and dragged for several metres in front of a row of shops at the Shaftsbury Square on Oct 17.
She succumbed to her injuries the next day.
