Bojan’s boys in do-or-die battle against China

- Aznan Syafiq

Hodak’s side must beat China in today’s AFC Under-19 Group D match in Bekasi, Indonesia in order to have any chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

China are out of the running while Malaysia have one point and occupy third position, behind leaders Saudi Arabia (six) and second-place Tajikistan (four).

Striker Hadi Fayyadh Abdul Razak, Malaysia’s leading scorer with two goals, hopes his team will make a lasting impression and collect three points.

Even if Malaysia win, their hopes of qualifying will depend on the result between Saudi and Tajikistan.

If Tajikistan win or draw against Saudi then Malaysia will be out of the last-eight even if they beat China.

“Based on the current situation, it looks tough (to go through), but anything can happen in football.

“The focus is on our last group match against China and we know this is a make-or-break match for us.

“We will work on our weaknesses and give our 100 per cent on the pitch,” said Hadi Fayyadh.

The 18-year-old also hopes to continue his scoring momentum in the tournament.

“I am the team’s leading scorer with two goals thanks to my teammates who created the chances.

“I hope I can continue scoring goals,” Hadi Fayyadh added.

Hodak said: “China have well-built players but unfortunately, they do not have a finisher.

“I believe they will make changes and play their fringe players in this match.

“We need to prepare technically and also avoid making mistakes.

“Regardless whether we qualify for the last-eight, we want to win tomorrow,” Hodak added.
