SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan palace has revoked the “Datuk Seri” titles conferred on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

State Secretary Dr Razali Ab Malik, who is state registrar of awards, said Najib was stripped of the Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan, which carries the title “Datuk Seri Utama”, and Rosmah was stripped of the Darjah Seri Paduka Tuanku Ja’afar Yang Amat Terpuji, which carries the title “Datuk Seri”. The awards were conferred on Najib in 2005 and Rosmah in 2006.

Razali said the decision was made yesterday at a special meeting of the awards, titles and honours committee at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, near Kuala Pilah.

“The decision is aimed at safeguarding the honour of the Negri Sembilan royal institution.”

It is understood that Najib still holds “Datuk Seri” titles from other states, including Pahang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Penang, Kelantan, Kedah and Perlis. Rosmah still holds “Datuk Seri” titles from Pahang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, Kedah and Selangor.
