‘DATUK’ COP REMANDED BY MACC

He allegedly received RM100,000 in graft

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a five-day remand order against a senior police officer with the title “Datuk” to assist investigations into a corruption case involving RM100,000.

The order against the 56-yearold was given by magistrate Shah Wira Abdul Halim, said MACC (operations) Deputy Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki.

The police officer, who holds the rank of senior assistant commissioner, was arrested at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 7pm on Thursday.

It is learnt that the officer, formerly the director of a department at the Federal police headquaters in Bukit Aman, allegedly solicited and received bribes totalling RM100,000 between August last year and August this year.

The money was an inducement not to take action against a police lance corporal at the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, who had taken bribes for reducing payments on summonses.
