ALOR STAR: Unofficial results have put PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali in the lead over his challenger, Rafizi Ramli, in Kedah after 10 party branches here ended voting earlier.

The unofficial results show that Azmin received 1,148 votes against Rafizi’s 1,031.

Azmin was reported to have won in six branches — Pendang, Jerlun, Kuala Kedah, Padang Terap, Baling and Sik.

Rafizi, meanwhile, took Alor Star, Langkawi, Kubang Pasu and Pokok Sena. Voting continues today at five more branches — Jerai, Merbok, Sungai Petani, Padang Serai and Kulim-Bandar Baharu.

Kedah PKR deputy chairman Zamri Yusof said technical difficulties, which caused the state party elections to be cancelled on Sept 22, had been solved.

“Based on information we received, the voting process at all branches went well and began at 9.30am. “The voting went on till 5pm and we opened special lines for women and the elderly to ensure that everything went smoothly.”
