Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Zaharudin Rasip said investigations found an identification card near the skeleton.

A next of kin confirmed that the identification card belonged to a family member who went missing two years ago.

“A team from the district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division and a forensic team from Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital conducted a probe at the scene and ruled out foul play.

“A procedure was done to determine the cause of death and to confirm the identity of the deceased. The case has been classified as sudden death.”

Pictures of the skeleton went viral on social media on Thursday.

Zaharudin said police sought the public’s cooperation to not share any information on the discovery of the skeleton to avoid speculation.

“Such irresponsible acts will cause tension and misunderstanding.”
