A GOOD CALL TO RESIGN

Former Fifa referee on Subkhiddin quitting FAM

THE decision by FA of Malaysia's Referee Committee chairman Subkhiddin Salleh to step down from his post is the right one.

A former Fifa referee, who wants to remain anonymous, said Subkhiddin’s appointment of the much maligned Suresh Jayaraman as the referee for the recent Malaysia Cup final between Perak and Terengganu is proof of his failure to manage the committee.

The former Fifa referee felt that that FAM’s referee department head, Kassim Kadir Bacha, should also resign as he was the one who suggested Jayaraman in a meeting before the Malaysia Cup final.

"By right not only Subkhiddin but Kassim is also responsible in selecting Jayaraman.

“And the poor umpiring displayed in the final showed that the Referee Committee, as well as the referee department, didn’t do their job.

"My fellow referees and I are of the opinion that the entire committee should resign and make way for others,” he said.

On Tuesday, Subkhiddin made a shock decision, announcing he was resigning as the Referee Committee chairman, as well as from the FAM exco following the adverse comments about him and his family on social media.

During the Malaysia Cup final, Jayaraman had angered players and fans alike with his controversial decisions, including disallowing Perak’s two goals, which were deemed legitimate by many.
