-

ABDUL RAZAK RAAFF AND T.N ALAGESH Prof. Datuk Seri Dr. Daing Nasir Ibrahim, the internationalisation of UMP in building a strong academic network of cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany has resulted in globally competitive graduates that standout and match up to not only German companies but also companies with business relationships with Germany.

“UMP’s internationalisation in building a strong academic network of cooperation with Germany is aimed at producing competitive graduates. UMP will continue to explore new ideas to empower world-class education, research and services in the engineering ecosystem,” he said.

Responding to the government’s call to strengthen the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem, Daing Nasir said UMP will offer the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BTech.) programme related to automotive engineering which targets those from vocational colleges, polytechnics and other skills training institutions starting next year.

Daing Nasir said to strengthen its position in Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0) smart technology, UMP is working closely with the Asia Centre of Excellence for Smart Technologies (Aces) in the East Coast Economic Region on Industrial Revolution, smart technology and digital initiatives involving human resource development activities not only in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) but for Asia as well.

“At the same time, UMP has emerged as the first public university in Malaysia to receive industrial grants from HP Malaysia Manufacturing Sdn Bhd to enhance workforce efficiency through technology development based on IR 4.0 elements namely artificial intelligence, public storage and automatic systems. A product prototype has been jointly developed at the Innovative Manufacturing, Mechatronics and Sports Laboratory (iMAMS) laboratory, UMP Manufacturing Engineering Faculty and in HP Manufacturing Malaysia laboratory.

“This year, UMP also boosted its global presence through a series of academic collaborations with higher learning institutions abroad including Telkom University and Andalas University in Indonesia; Northern University and Manarat International University in Bangladesh; GRG School of Management Studies in India; National College of Automotive Technology in Oman; and the Hassan II University of Casablanca in Morocco, “he said.

Meanwhile, Daing Nasir said UMP is the first university among technical universities (MTUN) to be ranked at the 188th spot among Asian universities in the QS Asia University ranking: 2019 and further earned a five star rating for the Teaching and Learning criteria in the Assessment Systems Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars Rating 2018 earlier this year.

He added QS also listed UMP’s Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing subject in the 251-300 range in the world and this was proven by achieving five stars in all aspects of QS rating and the Malaysian Research Evaluation (MyRA), Rating System for Malaysian Education (SETARA), Ministry of Education Star Rating (MyMohes) and Financial Management Excellence Award based on the Auditor-General’s Accountability Index.

“UMP also managed to increase funds for research projects through international grants including research collaboration with Ajmal Perfumes Manufacturing and Oudh Processing Industry L.L.C., in India for gaharu (agarwood) products. Research collaboration with Asahitechno Co Ltd in Japan focused on the development of super well point methods in flood prevention system and collaborated with HsKA in Cyberphysical Systems research in mechatronic and automotive engineering.

“UMP’s Faculty of Industrial Management also explored the potential
