Sabah PKR promises fresh polls will be smooth

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR has given an assurance that fresh polls at three divisions this weekend will be smooth.

State party coordinator Rosli Masaliku yesterday said the Central Election Committee had decided to hold fresh polls in Keningau today. It would be held at the badminton hall of the Keningau Sports Complex, which had ample space compared with Kampung Merampong, where voting was held last week.

The polls in Tawau and Pensiangan divisions will be held tomorrow at Dewan Badminton Kompleks Sukan in Tawau and the multipurpose hall in Nabawan, respectively.

“We are confident that the process, especially in Keningau, will run smoothly as we have taken action (to address issues that may arise). This time, we will ensure there will be no one attempting to stop voters from entering the hall,” he said, adding that the party had asked police and People’s Volunteer Corps to beef up security at polling stations.

Rosli said the commotion in Keningau last Saturday occurred when some supporters stopped those wearing blue shirts from going into the hall, prompting deputy presidential candidate Rafizi Ramli to interfere.

Rafizi was allegedly manhandled before he was escorted out of the premises, and he lodged a police report afterwards.

In Pensiangan, the voting process was reported to have extended beyond the allocated time of between 9am and 3pm.

The situation had caused dissatisfaction among PKR members at the division, with some lodging police reports.

It is learned that the Tawau PKR division also faced objections, prompting the committee to conduct fresh polls.
