393 teachers feted at BH event
SUNGAI PETANI: A total of 393 primary and secondary school teachers in Perlis, Kedah and Penang were celebrated at a hotel here yesterday.
The Sepetang Bersama Guru 2018 programme was held to appreciate the schools that subscribed to Berita Harian, specifically the publication’s education pullouts: Skor, Minda and Didik.
Kedah Education Department deputy director Ismail Othman said the cooperation between schools in the state and BH for the past 14 years had helped teachers diversify their teaching tools.
“The use of newspapers as a teaching aid not only helps teachers in delivering their lessons, but also helps students with their examinations.
“Newspaper, print or digital, inculcates the reading culture in students so that they will be more knowledgeable about current affairs.”
Present were New Straits Times Press (NSTP) chief commercial officer Alfian Abu Talib, Education Vertical Department general manager Farah Ezrin Mohd Rashidi and Newspaper Sales and Distribution general manager Alfian Alias.
Ismail said NSTP’s recognition of teachers empowered the education sector.
“I hope other corporate entities emulate NSTP’s initiatives.
“We hope to produce more young people who are independent, resilient when facing challenges and have good character and values.”
Among activities at the event were a forum titled “Akhbar Membantu Melahirkan Generasi Berilmu”
