‘Missing’ Chinese national held by Immigration in Oct 13 raid

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman from China, who was reported missing by her family last month, had actually been under the detention of the Immigration Department all this while.

It is learnt that Zhou Han, 22, was arrested during a raid on an entertainment outlet in Jalan Cheras here on Oct 13.

Her father, Zhou Xiaobo, lodged a report when his daughter became uncontactable, said Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharudin Abdullah.

“Her father said he last contacted her through WeChat on Oct 10. He said she came to Malaysia on Oct 2, along with six other Chinese women she did not know (who may have been recruited by a Chinese group).

“He revealed that his daughter came here to work as a bar singer,” Shaharudin said yesterday.

When police launched an investigation, their database revealed that Zhou Han was being held by the Immigration Department.

“She was detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act. She was arrested together with 21 other foreigners.

“(We) are obtaining verification from the Immigration Department on her current status and where she is (being held),” Shaharudin said.
