‘Miss­ing’ Chi­nese na­tional held by Im­mi­gra­tion in Oct 13 raid

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman from China, who was re­ported miss­ing by her fam­ily last month, had ac­tu­ally been un­der the de­ten­tion of the Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment all this while.

It is learnt that Zhou Han, 22, was ar­rested dur­ing a raid on an en­ter­tain­ment out­let in Jalan Cheras here on Oct 13.

Her fa­ther, Zhou Xiaobo, lodged a re­port when his daugh­ter be­came un­con­tactable, said Dang Wangi district po­lice chief As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner Sha­harudin Ab­dul­lah.

“Her fa­ther said he last con­tacted her through WeChat on Oct 10. He said she came to Malaysia on Oct 2, along with six other Chi­nese women she did not know (who may have been re­cruited by a Chi­nese group).

“He re­vealed that his daugh­ter came here to work as a bar singer,” Sha­harudin said yes­ter­day.

When po­lice launched an in­ves­ti­ga­tion, their data­base re­vealed that Zhou Han was be­ing held by the Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment.

“She was de­tained un­der Sec­tion 51(5)(b) of the Im­mi­gra­tion Act. She was ar­rested to­gether with 21 other for­eign­ers.

“(We) are ob­tain­ing ver­i­fi­ca­tion from the Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment on her cur­rent sta­tus and where she is (be­ing held),” Sha­harudin said.
