Malaysian duo bag gold
Tze Liang-Syafiq Puteh produced a decent performance to win the men’s 3m springboard synchro gold medal at the Kuala Lumpur round of the Diving Grand Prix in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
The Malaysian pair posted 368.64 points to finish ahead of Singapore’s silver medallists Timothy Lee-Mark Lee (350.73) and Croatia’s bronze medallists Hrojave Brezovac-Juraj Melsa (336.06).
It was Tze Liang's second triumph after his gold feat in the 3m springboard individual on Friday.
Syafiq was relieved that his partnership with Tze Liang worked well in the event.
“I managed to execute the difficult routines with Tze Liang.
“It took me a month to prepare for this tournament, I forced myself to try out higher degree of difficulty dives,” said Syafiq.
He added that he needs to keep raising the bar when it comes to routines.
"In order to challenge the best divers, I need to master difficult routines. I am patiently working on them,” he added.
In the women’s event, Kimberly Bong took the springboard individual silver with a 262.25 total.
China's Ma Tong won the gold on 287.95 while Australian Kate Rosman (261.35) completed the podium.
