ANWAR UNAWARE OF CABINET RESHUFFLE
PKR will not submit new names, says party leader
PKR will not submit any names to the prime minister amid speculation of a cabinet reshuffle, said party president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“No one in PKR alerted me to the need of a change or to submit new names. So as it stands... no change,” he said.
Anwar said questions on the likelihood of a cabinet reshuffle should be posed to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Port Dickson member of parliament was speaking at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.
Yesterday, in an interview with The Straits Times in Singapore, Dr Mahathir said he was open to the idea of reshuffling his cabinet.
Dr Mahathir had said he had the final say in cabinet appointments. He also did not rule out making changes if PKR were to make nominations, following the conclusion of the party elections last week.
“They (PKR) can submit names, they can argue their case. I have my own views also.
“And the principle is that this cabinet is chaired by me as the prime minister and I need to have people who I am comfortable with. So whether I accept nominations from them or not, is really up to me,” Dr Mahathir was quoted as saying.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, when met at the Parliament lobby, said: “DAP has not submitted any names... you are asking the wrong person about the cabinet reshuffle.”
