Najib: Who gains from Harapan Coin scheme?

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad to come clean on who stands to benefit from the planned Harapan Coin cryptocurrency scheme.

Najib, via a Facebook post, also demanded Khalid reveal the identities of those behind the scheme.

“I ask again, what is the agenda of this Harapan Coin, and who actually stands to benefit from it?

“I want Khalid Samad to reveal the identities of those behind this project. Name them, one by one. Do not try to take advantage of the people; I will fight,” he said.

In the same posting, he quoted an article that quoted Khalid as saying that the returns would be divided between the developers (30 per cent), Parti Amanah Negara (30 per cent) and Pakatan Harapan (40 per cent).

Previously, Khalid was reported as saying that he would propose the Harapan Coin scheme, which he said employs blockchain technology, to Bank Negara Malaysia and Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Najib had on Tuesday taken a swipe at Khalid and said the ideas proposed by PH leaders of late were “extremely creative”.

Najib said the controversy over the FundMyHome scheme had yet to die down before Malaysians were faced with the Harapan Coin idea.

“I went through the website and it states that it (Harapan Coin) “has the potential to become the official currency if PH wins the election”.

“The explanation was full of rhetoric and unfounded justification.

“The more I read, the stranger it became. It was all the more odd when I realised that this was linked to YB Khalid Samad,” Najib added.

He questioned why Khalid was championing the cryptocurrency project.

“Does Bank Negara agree with the Harapan Coin and does it recognise the coin as an official currency?

“What is this YB’s agenda?”
