Synergy Marine inks RM188.75m vessel supply contract

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Synergy Marine (M) Sdn Bhd has partnered with MTCMS Design Sdn Bhd and Shin Yang Shipyards Sdn Bhd to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) and diesel platform supply vessel costing RM188.75 million.

Synergy Marine managing director Datuk Roslan Ahmad said the shipbuilding project will start in January next year and is expected to be completed by December 2020.

“Synergy Marine will invest in research and development of ship designs using three-dimensional technologies, including digital twin technology, equipped with virtual reality technology for maintenance, emergency and training exercises.

“The LNG generating engine system is believed to reduce the release of sulfur dioxide, nitrogenous dioxide and carbon dioxide, which is more environmentally friendly than the vessels currently used,” he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Synergy Marine, MTCMS Design and Shin Yang Shipyards, here, yesterday.

Also present were MTCMS Design managing director and chief executive officer Abdul Razak Ismail and Shin Yang Shipyards chief executive officer Captain Ting Hien Liong.

Roslan said the vessel would have a width of 19m, a length of 76.8m and a deck capacity of 600 sq m and built to offer services to oil and gas companies.

“Since the economic downturn and the decline in oil prices since 2016, most of the global oil and gas companies are restarting exploration and production campaigns, which is a good indicator because it shows the marine and shipping industry will start to pick up again.

“For the time being, we are building only one LNG power generating platform supply vessel, but some companies in West Asia have shown interest in the previous project.

“Therefore, we are ready to build another platform supply vessel if there was a demand for them from countries in West Asia,” he said.
