Weekend like no other

A stay at one of Kuala Lumpur’s luxurious hotels provides the perfect romantic getaway, writes Hanna Hussein

ABOUQUET of flowers is romantic but a getaway with a spa treatment is even better. And it is at one of the luxurious hotels Lumpur.in the city! Grand Hyatt Kuala

It’s still early for us to check in but the reception workers help with our luggage and direct us to Thirty8, the stunning restaurant on the 38th floor, where we kick off our romantic weekend getting high on sugar.

360-DEGREE CITY VIEW

The view from up here is spectacular. Our table is located in one corner with an unobstructed view of the city skyline and the Twin Towers.

The restaurant has a 360-degree city view and comprises dining areas, bar and lounge as well as live kitchens serving both local and international cuisines. It is an elegant space, with plenty of natural lighting and great ambience.

Every weekend (including public holidays), it offers guests the High on Sugar afternoon tea buffet. At RM142 nett per adult, the afternoon tea, which is served from noon to 5pm, offers a variety of tempting cakes, macarons, scones and chocolate desserts.

Guests can also order from the buffet menu. We opt for a few to share — Caprese Salad, Lamb Shepherd Pie, Black Angus Beef Meatballs, Seafood Dumplings, Potato Puff, Spring Rolls and assorted dim sum.

The delicacies come in a small plate for twin sharing but you can order as much as you want.

Those who like something extra heavy, there is the Chinese noodles station with a choice of broth or dry sauce.

After having a blast dining here, we end it with the signature dessert -icecream sandwiches. A huge dark chocolate cookie and creamy vanilla ice-cream, the best combination ever! You can select other flavours of cookies and ice-cream.

Also choose from a selection of Ronnefeldt Tea to go with your dish. If you like coffee, there are also selections too.

LUXURIOUS SPACE

After a scrumptious dining experience, we head to our Tower View Deluxe room, a spacious 65 sq metre room with a panoramic view of the Twin Tower.

Our king-sized bed faces the majestic tower and the view gets even better when the city is lighted up during the evening. The room has floor-to-ceiling windows, giving us a clear view of the city.

It has a shower and bathtub space that has a view of the city too! Very roomy and at the other corner is the separate toilet and sink area. I also love that it has a vanity table where I can do my make-up in natural lighting.

The room also has a work desk. There is a sofa in one corner where I can relax and do some light reading.

It’s a luxurious room, simple yet with a very warm ambience, giving me a homely feeling.

SPA TIME

Of course, every romantic getaway must have at least a romantic activity to do together -my favourite is to just relax and be pampered at the spa with loved ones.

At Essa Spa, which opens from 10am to 10pm, you can experience the deepest relaxation in luxurious solitude. However, early booking is advisable.

Upon arrival for my appointment, I am greeted by Aliya. She hands me a cold towel which smells strongly of ginger and a refreshing welcome drink.

Then she ushers me to a private room to change for my one-hour treatment.

It starts with a nice warm foot bath and continues with an oil massage. But before she starts, I request for hard pressure.

“I don’t really want to leave feeling unsatisfied,” I tell her.

Aliya gives good strong pressure to relief my stress and muscle sores. I leave the spa feeling fulfilled!
