Drug syndicate mastermind among 5 held
KUALA LUMPUR: The mastermind of a drug syndicate has been using a restaurant as a cover for his illegal activity for the past few months, but his luck finally ran out.
After three months of surveillance, the Federal and city Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) managed to foil his illegal activities and arrested five people.
City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the 45-year-old mastermind was among the five men arrested on Monday.
“The five, aged between 22 and 45, were arrested between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Monday in a series of raids conducted by the Federal and city police NCID in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
“A total of 19.1kg of heroin and 9.3kg of methamphetamines worth RM804,000 were seized in the raids.
“Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate was supplying drugs to the Klang Valley and Perak,” he said at the city police headquarters here yesterday.
Also seized were five vehicles — a BMW320i, a BMW530i, a Honda Civic, a Perodua Alza and a Yamaha LC — as well as jewelleries and RM5,865.
Mazlan said the suspects did not keep the drugs in a house but instead, stashed them in the cars.
“They would send the drugs to the buyers directly using the cars. We found drugs in two cars during the raids.
“We believe they got the drugs from neighbouring countries, but we are still investigating.”
He said one of the suspects would be remanded until Nov 18 while the remaining suspects would be remanded until Nov 19 to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
