Rafizi grateful probe is being conducted

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Former PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli, who has been vocal about Tabung Haji’s (TH) financial mess, is ready to continue his fight to uphold the truth on the issue.

Having spoken about the issue since March 1, 2015, he said his actions had landed him in jail, adding that his defamation trial is ongoing.

However, he said he was grateful that the gamble he took led to a probe being made on the Islamic financial institution.

“In many wrongdoings that I exposed, among the worst attack I had been subjected to was when I stood up to talk on Tabung Haji’s financial mess.

“I questioned the involvement of TH funds in 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) since March 2015. I made analyses on TH’s financial problems after Bank Negara (Malaysia) confirmed that its reserves had been in the negative.

“I was continuously attacked, be it by Umno supporters, Pas or the man on the street. There were not many friends who were brave enough to come and show support because of fear of being attacked as well,” he posted on his blog.

He said he had been arrested and charged, and was still attending trial for allegedly defaming TH.

“A senior leader had accused me of preventing thousands of Muslims from performing the haj due to my actions.

“But now I have been informed that a report has been made against the former senior management of Tabung Haji, including a senior staff who is a key witness in my court case.

“I pray that there will be more Malaysians who can look at an issue beyond narrow partisan politics. Do not let the TH episode happen again. Despite the evidence, many conspired to hide the damage and deny the truth just because the person who revealed the truth was an opposition member.”
