MCA president: PH govt ‘exacting revenge’ on party
KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is bewailing acts of “political revenge” carried out by the Pakatan Harapan government against the Chinesebased party.
Its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, said in recent months, the government slashed allocations for the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR-UC) and Koperasi Jayadiri Malaysia Bhd (Kojadi).
At a media conference after the party’s 65th annual general assembly here yesterday, Wee questioned the government’s campaign against issues and institutions championed by MCA.
“If MCA is putting effort into matters of universal value, what is wrong with that? We only want to help small- and medium-sized Chinese entrepreneurs (he said of Kojadi).
“Didn’t PH say that it wanted to build Malaysia and defend the country based on fairness and equality? So, walk your talk. Don’t say one thing, but do something else.”
It was reported that Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng insisted that MCA relinquish its ownership of TAR-UC, in exchange for an increased allocation.
Lim said the government would provide only a RM5.5 million development fund for TAR-UC, instead of a RM30 million matching grant.
Wee claimed that the government suspended a RM50 million allocation for Kojadi, which was set aside for the cooperative last year by the Barisan Nasional administration.
