Perkasa wants Waytha Moorthy to resign

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Malay rights group Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali has some choice words for Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator P. Waytha Moorthy over the latter’s handling of the incident at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.

Ibrahim said Waytha Moorthy’s actions caused racial tension and tarnished the country’s image.

“One minute he is blaming the police for inaction, the next he makes a U-turn and praises them. However, he never issued any apology over what he said earlier,” he said, adding that Waytha Moorthy, who is national unity and social wellbeing minister, should be fired.

“Because of him, there is tension between the races. All this while, the races have been peaceful.”

It was reported that Waytha Moorthy initially claimed that the Subang Jaya police should be answerable for how they handled the Monday riots at the temple in USJ 25.

However, several days later, he praised their handling of the incident.

In his speech at Perkasa’s annual general meeting, Ibrahim called on the prime minister to reassess the number of Indian ministers in the cabinet.

He said the number of Indians in the country made up only seven per cent of the population, but there were many ministers appointed from the community.

Some 100 Perkasa members gathered near a hotel in Jalan Raja Alang to urge Waytha Moorthy to step down.

They dispersed an hour later to attend the annual general meeting.
