FT ministry to expand food truck business

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Territories Ministry will expand the food truck business within its jurisdiction to ensure that the food and beverage industry is operating in an organised, safe and clean environment.

Its minister, Khalid Abdul Samad, said the business was an innovative approach that was getting good response from people in the Federal Territories.

“We are planning to increase the number of food truck operators besides allocating more places for food trucks to operate.

“We will replace all food stalls with food trucks so that they can be managed in a clean and safe manner. Most food truck operators used to operate stalls before upgrading to trucks,” he said after officiating the Food Truck Presint 14 and Kiosk D’Belian@14 here yesterday.

Present were ministry deputy secretar y-general Datuk Rosida Jaafar and Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Dr Aminudin Hassim.

Khalid said the ministry had not abandoned the Bumiputera economic agenda and this could be seen from the RM500,000 allocated for the construction of the Food Truck Site at Presint 14 and Kiosk D’Belian@14.

Khalid said the two programmes were implemented under the Bumiputera Economic Empowerment Initiative of the Federal Territories Ministry.

“For those who said we have no agenda to help Bumiputeras, it is clear that that is not true at all.

“The opening of the food truck site in Presint 14 is part of the ministry’s effort to help Bumiputera entrepreneurs start small businesses,” he said.

He said Putrajaya now had two permanent food truck venues at Presint 2 and Presint 14, which could accommodate 40 trucks.
