Melaka to reap RM4.18 million from River Cruise attraction
MELAK A: Ticket sales for the Melaka River Cruise are expected to contribute RM4.18 million in entertainment tax to the state government next year, more than double this year’s RM1.5 million.
Melaka River and Coastal Development Corporation (PPSPM) chief executive officer Azlan Abidin said the better contribution was a result of higher ticket prices effective from Saturday, and the expected increase of visitors in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2019 (TMM 2019).
The tax revenue would go towards improving facilities and infrastructure for the state’s people, he said.
“We target to attract about 1.5 million customers for the Melaka River Cruise next year in conjunction with TMM 2019,” he said here yesterday.
More than a million visitors had taken the river cruise as of October and he expressed confidence of achieving the target of 1.2 million visitors.
Azlan said PPSPM was prepared to give offers and incentives to attract more visitors to go on the river cruise next year.
This, he said, included a 20 per cent discount on ticket prices through discount vouchers that could be obtained from the Melaka State Tourism Promotion Division.
Apart from that, visitors paying for tickets using the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet application will also enjoy RM8 off the ticket price.
“We are also developing an online ticketing system for the Melaka River Cruise, which is expected to be ready by the middle of this month,” he said.
