Wee Wern is hungry for more after securing her fifth title since returning from an injury in July at the Singapore Open on Saturday

The confident former World No 5 is determined to work even harder in order to return to the top of her game.

Wee Wern defeated Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yi 11-6, 11-5, 11-3 in the final of the PSA women’s challenger event.

“I am winning tournaments, but to be honest, it’s five smaller events than the ones I used to play in when I was at the top,” Wee Wern told www.straitstimes.com yesterday.

“What is more important for me is to get my ranking up, so that I can play in the bigger tournaments.”

The 28-year-old was sidelined for 21 months due to a knee injury.

“I need to improve on decision making during matches. I am not as sharp as I used to be but I am getting there.

“That will come with time, more playing and more experience. However, I am happy with my progress.

“My main target next year is to get back to competing against the top girls and see how I fare,” the World No 47 added.

Wee Wern’s other wins this season were in the Malaysian Open, Tasmanian Open, Australian Open and Q Open (in Queensland)

Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Annie Au dethroned eight-time world champion Nicol David as Asia’s No 1 after 15 years in the latest PSA Tour world ranking list.

Nicol dropped two rungs to World No 12 while Au move up to 11th.

The 35-year-old Malaysian, who has not won a title since March last year, has been the Asian No 1 since Dec 2003.
