SUBANG JAYA: Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the firefighter who was injured in the incident at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ25 here, is reported to be in a stable condition and able to interact with people.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said Adib, who is receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN), was, however, advised not to be too active.

“Adib became a victim of the situation while on duty.

“I hope such incident does not recur.

“We need to honour the work of our firemen, who are exposed to risks while carrying out their duties,” she said at the launch of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department AW189 helicopter here yesterday.

Present were Housing and Local Government Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek and Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

On Monday, the New Straits Times Press reported that Adib’s heart was no longer hooked to the ventricular assist device.

Hamdan said Adib, however, was still breathing with ventilator support.

“I was told by the cardiothoracic specialist (Datuk Dr Mohamed Izani Md Taib) that his heart is functioning without assistance.

“He no longer needs the machine for the heart. The situation is critical but stable.”
