PENGAKALAN HULU: The Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) personnel on Monday were involved in a high-speed pursuit with a four-wheel-drive vehicle driver.

The 8.30pm incident happened when the driver beat a roadblock at Km4.5 of Jalan Pengkalan Hulu-Betong, near here, yesterday.

He ignored Aksem personnel’s call to stop his vehicle and instead sped off towards Betong leading the authorities to pursue him.

Aksem Pengkalan Hulu Assistant Superintendent Kasturi Othman said the agency’s personnel chased the 4WD and eventually forced the driver to stop.

“Checks showed that the vehicle was driven by a 40-year-old man, and was accompanied by his 34-year-old wife and a 4-year-old boy.

“The man claimed that he was a policeman from a neighbouring country and produced his authority card.

“Fourteen packets, believed to contain ketum leaves, were found under the passenger seats,” Kasturi said, adding that police found 20 live ammunition.

The suspect admitted that the items belonged to him.

“We detained the trio and took them to the Pengkalan Hulu Aksem office before they were handed over to the Pengakalan Hulu Criminal and Narcotics Investigation Department for further action.

“A urine test saw the suspect testing positive for methamphetamine.

“The suspect has been remanded for four days from yesterday (Monday) to assist in investigations,” he said.
