Get a head start at TAR UC

DECIDING what to study after completing the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination is not as easy as it seems for school leavers. While some may think of taking a pre-university programme with a broader scope of study so that they will have more flexibility in choosing their field of study later on, others may have already set their sights on their desired discipline for their tertiary education and therefore a focused pre-university programme will be the preferred choice.

With close to 50 years of academic excellence in providing pre-university education, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) has prepared many students for its undergraduate programmes via the TAR UC Foundation programme, which is academically focused and rigorous to provide students with a solid grounding as they advance their studies at the institute.

Conducted by the Centre for Pre-University Studies (CPUS), TAR UC’s Foundation programme structure is tailor-made to ensure students can assimilate and gain a deeper understanding of the requisite knowledge so that they are well-prepared to continue indepth studies at the undergraduate level.

TAR UC offers a Foundation in Arts and Science programme, which prepares students for a wider range of its undergraduate programmes.

For a more specialised pathway, the Foundation in Accounting and Foundation in Engineering programmes provide school leavers with firm grounding as they progress into undergraduate studies in the corresponding disciplines.

The Foundation in Accounting programme offers a number of accountancy and commerce-based courses, whereas Foundation in Engineering programme offers sciencebased courses which relate particularly to the field of engineering. Furthermore, CPUS will offer a new programme — Foundation in Business — during the upcoming January 2019 intake, which will focus on businessrelated subjects.

Having their mind set on pursuing their undergraduate degree in the field of accounting, it is no surprise that twin sisters Chan Lai Jin and Chan Lai Pei have enrolled into TAR UC’s Foundation in Accounting programme.

“The programme stands out because it is a fast-tracked pathway to TAR UC’s accounting degree programme,” they said. “When we found out that TAR UC was offering a foundation programme, which is structured to complement its undergraduate accountancy programmes, it piqued our interest because we do plan to pursue a career in the accounting field.

“TAR UC has a stellar reputation in producing high achievers in external examinations, such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Also, its accountancy programmes are granted maximum exemptions from global professional bodies for instance ACCA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and Certified Public Accountant Australia,” they added.

Drawn to TAR UC’s Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechatronic programme, Ng Ming Li knew that he needed Foundation in Engineering programme to start him off on the right footing.

“What attracted me to this programme was its emphasis on the engineering field,” he shared. “My lecturers are knowledgeable and the lab facilities help me understand my subjects better.”

“The vibrant student lifestyle around campus and TAR UC’s top-notch facilities, such as its library, Olympic-size swimming pool, gym and cyber centre, make campus life enjoyable and unforgettable.”
