DRIVEN by passion in her studies, together with guidance from the best lecturers in the field, Demitrius Simon Anthony has proven herself when she won the Chairman’s Award at the Ramsay Sime Darby Healthcare College (RSDHC) convocation recently.

The 21-year-old diploma in medical laboratory technology graduate from Bandar Sunway received the college’s highest award for consistently demonstrating the college’s values, and for active participation in internal and external activities.

Demitrius scored a CGPA of 3.96 and she was on the dean’s list for all six semesters of her studies.

The oldest of three siblings is currently working as a sales assistant at a pharmacy while waiting to further her studies in biomedical science at Sunway University.

“My lecturers are the best, they are really good and helpful at all times. They don’t just teach us as lecturers, but they treat us like family members,” she said.

She chose to enrol in RSDHC for its reputation in healthcare and allied health sciences, and she believes that one of the reasons for her good grades and excellent achievement is the guidance from her lecturers.

“Whatever the question or problem, they would be there to help us.

“I always focused in class and if I didn’t understand anything, I would ask my lecturers. I cleared my doubts and when I went back to the hostel, I was laid back and easygoing. I didn’t pressure myself to study much.

“I was just very focused in class, and one thing that made it easier for me to study was that I loved what I was learning, making it much easier to understand,” she said.

She advised school leavers to always pursue their passion.

“As long as you love what you are studying, you will definitely go far.”

RSDHC is one of the pioneers in healthcare education and has excellent track record since 1995.

It is a subsidiary of Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care Group, a joint venture between Ramsay Health Care Limited of Australia and Sime Darby Bhd of Malaysia.

Programmes offered in the School of Nursing include the diploma in nursing and post-basic certification in renal, oncology and critical care nursing.

The School of Allied Health Sciences offers the diploma in physiotherapy, diploma in medical assistant, diploma in healthcare service, diploma in medical laboratory technology and advanced diploma in trauma and emergency care.

RSDHC was awarded the 6-STAR Outstanding Quality Rating by the Higher Education Ministry in the MyQuest2014/2015 quality rating of colleges. The college was among nine recipients of this award out of 400 colleges in the country.
