Christian begins new chapter with coach Saeed

- Fadhli Ishak

Didier Chin will begin his career on the senior tour with highly experienced Iranian coach Saeed Afzalirad guiding him in this important transition stage.

Christopher Chin, who is Christian’s father-cum-manager, said the 18-yearold recently met the Iranian at the Port Dickson (PD) Open and the duo immediately got off to a positive start.

Christian, 18, won the PD Open singles and mixed doubles title, in which he paired with Saeed’s daughter Tara Afzalirad.

“Christian has begun to work with Saeed and the two have good chemistry which is very important as he needs someone he can listen to,” said Christopher yesterday.

“Saeed is very experienced at the international level and this is important as we need someone who has experience when Christian travels to big tournaments abroad.

“He also has good connections with IMG Academy Bolletieri in Florida and Murutuglu Tennis Academy in France. Not many coaches have this kind of experience and contacts internationally.

“We have not signed any contract with Saeed yet. Will see how things go and if everything goes well, we will look at securing things for the long term.”

Saeed has been based in Malaysia for about two decades and has coached the Malaysian national team as well as the Iran national team.

Christian has not had a permanent coach in recent seasons and has worked with numerous coaches both locally and abroad on short stints.
