Way to go, Adib

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Injured firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim will remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Heart Institute (IJN) until he fully recovers.

IJN chief clinical officer Datuk Dr Aizai Azan Abdul Rahim said a full recovery would take time, but doctors were satisfied with Adib’s progress.

“A full recovery takes time. We must be patient. We are satisfied with the positive progress Adib has shown, which is now at 70 per cent.

“Adib will remain at the ICU. We hope to see more significant improvements in the next two to three weeks,” Dr Aizai Azan said at IJN here yesterday.

Present was Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin, who expressed confidence that Adib would be able to attend his wedding at the end of the month.

Adib and his wife-to-be, Nurul Najihah, had planned to get married on Dec 21.

Last week, Adib sustained severe injuries while on duty during the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple riot in USJ 25, Subang Jaya.

Zuraida said doctors believe Adib would regain his strength as his treatment was handled by experienced doctors.

“Adib’s family is more cheerful now. His parents look happier.

“When Adib was admitted to Subang Jaya Medical Centre last week, his face was so swollen that I initially thought he was a chubby person.

“Today, I can see the real Adib. It turns out he is thin.

“He can’t talk because there are tubes in his mouth, but he can move. Doctors have advised him not to be so still.”

Earlier, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, visited Adib.

He said Adib appeared to be aware of the visit.

“He’s conscious, but he can’t speak. He can just listen. It’s a good day today because for the first time, Adib gave a thumbs up,” he said.

Rosmah said she prayed for Adib’s speedy recovery so he could go to his wedding.

“I visited him just now. He can lift his arm.

“As a mother, I understand how his mother and his fiancée must feel. Let’s pray for Adib’s speedy recovery.”

Najib and Rosmah arrived at 11am and spent about half an hour with Adib.
