ATOTAL of 99 people have been arrested by police in connection with the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya last week, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

He said the arrests were made during several operations in the Klang Valley.

“As at 8am today (yesterday), the number of arrests has increased from 83 to 99.

“Investigations are ongoing and efforts to hunt down the remaining suspects are continuing,” he said at the Police Training Centre here yesterday.

On a separate matter, Fuzi urged the participants in this Saturday’s rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination not to stir up racial and religious sentiments.

“Don’t play up the temple incident because it has nothing to do with race or religion. The police will monitor the rally and ensure that it proceeds smoothly and peacefully.”

He said police might set up traffic restrictions and diversions in the city centre during the rally, which is scheduled to be held from 2pm to 6pm.

Federal police in Bukit Aman said they were looking for 38 more witnesses to assist in investigations into the riots.

Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd urged witnesses to come forward to facilitate investigations.

He said those with information on the whereabouts of the witnesses should contact Subang Jaya CID chief Deputy Superintendent G.K. Shan Gopal at 019271 4387.

“They can also contact Selangor police headquarters’ CID legal investigation officer Assistant Superintendent S. Neeraj Durai at 016-356 5622 or the Selangor police headquarters CID DNA databank investigation officer Inspector Norsiah Hussin at 012-798 9973, or channel the information to any police station.”
