KOTA BARU: Pas has expressed its appreciation and thanked Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan and police for approving the antiICERD rally in the capital this Saturday.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, said with the green light, the organisers could proceed with plans to hold the peaceful rally at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.

Takiyuddin, who is Kota Baru member of parliament, said Pas welcomed the cooperation by the authorities and gave his assurance that participants attending the rally would adhere to regulations.

He said the rally would signify the importance of preserving harmony in society in line with the provisions set in the Federal Constitution.

Nor Hisham recently gave the green light for the anti-ICERD rally on the condition that it would be conducted peacefully.

He said the green light was given after discussions with government agencies and police.

He said the gather- ing would be allowed from 2pm to 6pm in Jalan Raja opposite Ban- gunan Sultan Abdul Samad and Dataran Merdeka.

The rally to thank the government for not ratifying the United Nations’ International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination is organised by MalayMuslim non-governmental organisation Ummah and Sekretariat Kedaulatan Negara.

It was reported that Pas and Umno would join the rally, together with Malay rights group Perkasa.
