Ministry sets up NACC to address challenges facing aviation industry
PUTRAJAYA: The Transport Ministry yesterday established the National Aviation Consultative Council (NACC) aimed at addressing the development, challenges and direction of the local aviation sector.
Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook said NACC would be an avenue for local aviation players and stakeholders to cooperate and create a conducive environment to strengthen their operational efficiencies and services.
“We have our first meeting today with about 120 senior officers from government agencies and aviation representatives.
“NAAC’s role serves as an advisory body to the ministry, particularly in formulating Malaysian civil aviation policies,” he said yesterday.
He added that the inauguration of NAAC was one of the government’s initiatives to enhancing the collaborative efforts between government agencies and the civil aviation industry in addressing challenges and requirements of the national civil aviation industry.
Loke said his ministry would chair the next NACC meetings to be held at least twice a year, citing that the advisory body might consider proposals from all stakeholders in the local aviation sector, including airlines, airport operators, ground-handlers, Aviation Professional Associations and aviation technical experts.
The ministry announced the appointment of three chairmen to lead the three NAAC advisory councils — economic, technical and infrastructure.
The appointees are Malaysia Airlines Bhd Group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail (Advisory Council of Economic), former Malaysia Civil Aviation Department directorgeneral Datuk Kok Soo Chon (Advisory Council of Technical) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd acting group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin (Advisory Council of Infrastructure).
