THE Youth and Sports Ministry is ready to cooperate with the Audit Department, stressing that public safety has always been its priority.

It said this in response to a call urging the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to investigate the ministry and the Transport Ministry based on the Auditor General’s Report 2017 Series 2.

The call was made by Auditor General Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad, saying that there were several matters and punitive issues that needed to be addressed regarding the reports involving the two ministries.

In this respect, the ministry said proposed corrective measures would be undertaken.

“Relating to the Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC) in Bukit Jalil, the ministry wants to stress that safety, in using the facilities, has always been our priority.

“The ministry will not compromise with any quarters who fail to abide by safety procedures.

“This is to ensure that the public and customers can use the facilities safely and ensure events can be organised smoothly,” said the ministry yesterday.

On the need to temporarily close KLSC, which includes the Bukit Jalil National Sports Stadium, it said the ministry and the Auditor General’s Office had agreed that KLSC was in a good and safe condition to host any event or activity.

“All stadium and physical amenities at KLSC have received Certificate of Completion and Compliance, which means it has been built completely and safe to be used.”

The ministry cited several events held at KLSC, including the Kuala Lumpur Major 2018 and the venue for the AFF Suzuki 2018 matches.
