Southern Tigers bring in Spanish firepower for Super League campaign

JOHOR Darul Ta’zim (JDT), the five-time winner of the Super League, officially welcomed their new signing, Spaniard Aaron Niguez in their Facebook page yesterday.

Winger Aaron, who is a product of the Valencia Academy, is the older brother of Atletico Madrid and Spain national star Saul Niguez. Saul has wished Aaron good luck in the M-League in his Instagram page.

The JDT Facebook page said: “Welcome to the JDT family. We would like to welcome Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club’s new foreign player from Spain, Aaron Niguez. Luaskan Kuasamu Johor.”

Aaron will fill the Southern Tigers’ import quota alongside defender Mauricio Nascimento of Brazil.

The 29-year old Aaron was seen participat­ing in a training session alongside JDT players at the Seri Gelam Training Centre, yesterday.

Aaron has previously played for Real Oviedo, Tenerife, Braga, Elche, Almeria, Recreativo de Huelva and Celta de Vigo player in the Spanish League.

Aaron’s signing came as JDT prepare for their first-ever campaign in the AFC Champions League.

The Elche-born player brings with him an impressive resume which includes being named World Soccer Magazine’s top 50 exciting teenage footballer­s in 2007 among the likes of Karim Benzema, Angel di Maria, Juan Mata, Gareth Bale, Sergio Aguero and Alexandre Pato.

He has capped 52 appearance­s for the Spanish national team from ages under-16 to under-21 with a total of 25 goals to his name.
