MOHAMADOU Sumareh apologised yesterday to Harimau Malaya fans for not being able to help the national team win the AFF Cup.

Malaysia were edged 3-2 on aggregate by Vietnam following a 10 defeat in Saturday’s final return leg in Hanoi.

“The boys did well and I am very, very proud of them having gone through this long campaign.

“I’m sorry Malaysia for not being able to win (the title).

“I would have done things better, if I had another chance,” said Sumareh, who played seven out of eight matches on his AFF Cup debut.

On Saturday, the Pahang winger came close to scoring on two occasions. His back heel attempt off a Safawi Rasid square ball rolled just wide of the Vietnam far post in the first half while his point-blank header was blocked by goalkeeper Dang Van Lam after the breather.

Sumareh felt he did not perform well in Hanoi.

“Everyone knew that I was not performing at my best.

“Overall, it wasn’t our day,” said the Gambia-born.

The 24-year-old said he will get back and take a break with his family and also eat all his favourite Gambian food.

“My family consoled me after the defeat. My mother will prepare all my favourite Gambian dishes when I get home,” he added.

Sumareh will only rejoin Pahang next month.
