Bersatu HQ takes over Perlis branch

-

PUTRAJAYA: Effective immediately, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) headquarters will take over the running of the Perlis branch following reports of internal strife in the northern state.

PPBM secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya said the decision was made by the central leadership in a meeting chaired by president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, according to Clause 14 of the party constitution.

He said the party would ensure that no statement was issued by anyone from Perlis, including state chairman Ameir Hassan.

“All administrative affairs will be taken over by the headquarters, under my supervision as secretary-general, and at the end of the month, I will hold a meeting with the Perlis leadership to find a way to resolve things.

“We will not announce anyone as state chairman until we resolve this conflict.”

The conflict within PPBM Perlis began when its secretary, Wan Saiful Wan Jan, was dropped from the state leadership on the grounds of ill health.

However, Wan Saiful claimed that he had been dropped for other reasons involving the integrity of the PPBM Perlis leadership.

Marzuki had tried to step in to resolve the issue, but this was in vain, with him eventually admitting that the state party had been plagued with problems since the very beginning.
