JORDAN IN FATHER’S FOOTSTEPS
Ollerenshaw Jr aims to make impact with Under23 team
AUSTRALIA-born Scott Ollerenshaw used to be the most feared striker in the M-League and now his son, Jordan aims to make an impact with the Malaysian Under-23 team.
Jordan, who helped St George FA win the recent NPL 3 New South Wales club championship, has been called up by the FA of Malaysia for national Under-23 training.
Jordan’s father, known as Ollie, won the Golden Boot award twice when he represented Sabah in the M-League in the 1990s.
The 20-year-old reported for national training at Wisma FAM on Wednesday under coach Ong Kim Swee.
He hopes to make up for missing out on a place in the Malaysian team for the Newspaper Cup in Vietnam recently due to injury.
“I was unlucky for the first camp training (Newspaper Cup) due to injury. Hopefully this time around, I’ll do well in training,” Jordan said yesterday.
“I hope to get the experience, go on this Bangkok tour, and play a few games.
Jordan, who plays as a left wing back in Kim Swee’s team, admitted he will have to re-adapt to Malaysian football which he describes as quicker and more technical, compared to the physical game in Australia.
“I spent about six months in Australia, trying to experience a different kind of football. And it was good for my football development because it made me a better player.”
Jordan added: “I believe I can get into the team as long I perform well in training.”
